Juanita Gonzalez, the 'original' Granny, developed the recipe for these mouth-watering Tex-Mex style tamales back in the 1990's and shared the 'oh-so-secret recipe' only with family members. Juanita and her husband, Robert, opened the first Granny’s Tamales shop in Corpus Christi over 20 years ago. Granddaughter Jeannie Almeida, and her husband Edward Almeida, decided to honor her grandmother's legacy by bringing the sought-after tamales to Austin, Texas. Jeannie left her successful career in the commercial insurance industry and Edward is a retired criminal justice professional. Jeannie & Edward have been married for over 25 years and have four children and two grandsons. They hope to expand family business throughout the Greater Austin.
