The food was absolutely delicious. Both my son and I loved our dishes. The restaurant itself is pretty with a quiet atmosphere, which is enjoyable. Thanks!
The food is authentic Indian/SAsian. The restaurant lives up to its name. Delicious Chatni (chutneys) with papad and other food very good too. Very nice staff.

Although the food was good, the service was slow despite it being fairly empty.

Two of our party sat on a bench / booth seat. Another party sat on the other side of the booth seat and constantly leaned back - hard forcing me forward toward my table.

It was a great little spot amidst what has become a bustling Montclair restaurant district. My wife and I enjoyed our meal(doggie bag worthy portions) as well as the service.

BYOB places are the best as they concentrate on the quality & quantity of the food. They exceeded in both areas. The chicken & fish (Salmon) tandoori were moist & not overcooked & the pieces were lg. Their "free" appetizer of the flat Non bread w/a tri-bowl of toppings was an unexpected bonus.

I loved the staff, ambiance, my husbands food was great but i wasn't overly impressed with the mushroom dish i ordered. although it was very tasty, timely service and clean

Food is pretty good, but we do find that each time something does not quite conform to the menu description. For example, Chicken Haribali (sp?)i was listed as having spinach and a pesto sauce. It tasted good but was a strange green color (looked more like food coloring) and no spinach visible, no pesto sauce - same red sauce as the wife's Chicken Tikka Kabob (which was good).
Excellent food and service. The ambiance was good, and we were able to speak with one another easily without background noise.

It was terrible. It was freezing in the restaurant and when we asked they said it was too expensive to put up the heat. We sat with our coats on.

Food is good but service is terrible. One girl running around to tables inside and out. We werent in a rush but after a while it gets annoying waiting so long for the simplest thing such as the check so you can pay and finally get out. The place needs more attentive help. The restaurant fills up all the tables with the same customers for the whole evening so they cant be making money.

The spiciness of the food is pretty inconsistent. Appetizer was spicy and entree was not at all, both were order medium. Other than that, the atmosphere is nice and service is good.
We love this restaurant for dine in as well as take out. The meal portions are a bit on the small side but the flavor makes up for that.
The lentil soup and mango lassi are wonderful. The lamb in the Josh Rogan (sp?) was a bit tough, but it was very tasty. Service was good and atmosphere is nice, with cloth tablecloth & napkins. Indian music was a bit strange, but soothing after awhile.
Exceptional food! Service was very good, though not phenomenal; server had a hard time answering questions about the menu and did not offer to get somebody else to help us. Otherwise it was a wonderful evening and we would go back in a heartbeat.

Warm atmosphere - even outside, when we were there over the warmer months. There is no feeling of being rushed. Elegant, yet casual.

It would be great if they had some background music as the atmosphere is very quiet. Some classical Indian music would really help set the ambience.
The food is delicious and authentic, but the atmosphere and staff leaves something to be desired. I'm all for keeping it in the family, but when half the people (especially those waiting on you) don't speak English, it's very frustrating. Pretty slow service and they pretty much disappear except for the girl coming around with water. The music went off 5 minutes after we entered and never went back on. I asked, but they didn't understand me and turned on a ceiling fan instead. It made for an awkward environment since everyone was trying to be quiet and not hear one another's conversations.

Food is good with a lot of options. For you authentic Indian lovers order it extra spicy. I got medium and though it was the perfect amount of kick and flavor. Automatic gratuity for restaurant.com users was calculated from the discounted bill, I left more cash for the waitress and the owner took it and said they all pool tips. She was the only waitress working and deserved the tip for serving my table, so because of the shady business practices Chatni receives only 3 stars when everything else was very good

The service was horrible, our server came by almost 10 minutes after being seated even though the restaurant wasn't even busy & never came by us again only to bring our food which took an hour to come. Food wasn't anything spectacular after the hour wait.
The service was very slow. They forgot to get our second appetizer and asked if we still wanted it while we were having our entrees.

the food is always great. our friends are picky eaters and never thought they would enjoy Indian food. well, they love it and want to try all the different things on the menu. so, we will be going often to try all the wonderful foods on the menu. Also, the staff and atmosphere is great.
It was a nice place. The staff was friendly. Food was good. It was a bit empty for a Saturday prime time and in a place like Montclair. That surprised us a bit. But, I am not worried about it.

we've eaten indian food at a number of places but the food at chatni is the best. everything we've had there is excellent. the service is also the best. Pleasant, friendly and efficient. we love the waitress because she makes our experience all the better. it's our new favorite.
Food good, restaurant itself was lovely. Good selection of food, and prices were very reasonable. Our samosas and biryani were very good. Tandoor chicken was a bit dry, and service staff seemed a bit harried at times. I chalk that up to the fact that the restaurant is quite new, and expect that to improve. Owner was there to make sure everything was running smoothly and patrons were happy.

Cute restaurant, friendly staff, good food. Stay away from the tiramisu. It was served partly frozen and was store bought and not very good.
Superb restaurant. The atmosphere was perfect for a cold winter evening. Food was wonderful, and our server was sweet and attentive. We will definitely be back for more.

The food was tasty and the aromas coming from the kitchen throughout the night were amazing. The only slight hiccup was that after being seated, no one offered us a menu for about 5 minutes. However, when the manager realized this, he immediately came over and offered 10% off the check. For the rest of the night, he was extremely attentive and really tried to give all the diners there a great experience. I heard him offer the large party one table over complimentary dessert as a thank you.
